Barriers to Overcome When Beginning a Weight Loss/Fitness Program: Excuse #1
It can feel quite intimidating for someone to walk through our doors for the very first time and approach a fitness professional’s desk to begin an attempt at a lifestyle change. It’s easy to feel lost among the large gym training floor with all its machines and dumbbells. Or to feel overwhelmed in the supplement store while surveying the various products on the shelves with questions and concerns, not knowing what to buy or what the latest diet/fitness trend is. All the while, debating with oneself whether to try something new or just remain stuck in the same pattern that did not yield desirable results.
Besides the mental and emotional, some of the challenges we face when beginning a health journey are physical. We may have chronic conditions, pain, or underdeveloped fitness levels. Whatever the barrier, whether physical or mental, either one can seem insurmountable. We are here to tell you that you can break through those barriers, safely and effectively. Think about what has stopped you from starting your fitness journey. What insecurities and excuses have you used or heard others use when flirting with starting a fitness/wellness transformation? As trainers, we hear quite a few. Here is one of the most common:
I need to get in shape before working with a trainer and starting my fitness program.
This misconception is often rooted in embarrassment or fear of being judged by the club staff or by your peers.
First & foremost, on behalf of the XPT Team, I say that I am thrilled and honored to be part of your journey from the very first day. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t worked out in years or you’re completely new to it or how much you weigh or how you look, I commend you for SHOWING UP for yourself. You must celebrate and be proud of the decision to begin, because it is a HUGE victory. You could have stayed home, but you CHOSE to ACT. Half the battle is just showing up. When a trainer is watching you, they are not judging you, they are making sure you are performing each exercise correctly and effectively. We are here to act as your teachers and coaches, we don’t expect you to know how to do everything perfectly.
When you sign up to begin your journey with your trainer we ask that you fill out a goal sheet. Not only do we want to know what your goals are, but we also want to pair you up with the proper trainer. We will choose a trainer that will suit your needs and complement your personality. See, here at XPT, we hand pick our trainers. All our FitPros are required to go through our FitPro Xcellence program and only then do we choose trainers that work with a variety of fitness levels. Most importantly, we choose the trainers we believe have the ability to get the most out of their clients while also caring about their clients. Quality and care come first.
Once you begin your journey with your trainer, you will first be given a full assessment to determine your fitness level and go over your goals with your trainer. All along the way you will be guided and coached with a plan that's geared toward helping you enjoy successes in the crucial early weeks. These achievements reinforce that you are capable and deserving of achieving your goals, no matter what they are.
Every journey needs a guiding force, we are here to take you by the hand, motivate you, support you, hold you accountable, and give your best. In other words, we will meet you exactly where you are today and take you to where you want to be tomorrow.
